Human rights due diligence (HRDD)

YIT is committed to respecting human rights in all its operations and value chains. Human Rights Due Diligence (HRDD) is a keyway to identify, prevent and address impacts on people arising from our operations.

HRDD is a continuous process and part of our Responsible Business Conduct and risk management.

International principles and frameworks

Our due diligence process is based on internationally recognised human rights principles and guidance, in particular:

  • UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights
  • OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises
  • Requirements of evolving corporate responsibility regulation

These principles form the basis for how human rights impacts are identified and addressed in business operations.

YIT commitments

We are committed to respecting human rights guided by our policies and principles. These commitments cover both our own operations and our value chains.

Key commitments include:

How the HRDD process works at YIT

YIT’s human rights due diligence process consists of the following elements:

Commitment

Respect for human rights is included in YIT policies and principles that guide operations across the Group and its value chains.

Identifying impacts and risks

We identify human rights impacts and risks in our own operations and value chains. The work is based on a risk-based approach and cross-functional cooperation.

Preventive and mitigating actions

We develop operating practices, guidance and cooperation arrangements to prevent adverse impacts. Actions are prioritised to areas where risks are most significant and where we have the greatest ability to influence outcomes.

Open and transparent communication

As part of the HRDD process, we communicate about serious violations transparently in sustainability reporting and, where possible, seek to be in direct contact with individuals who have experienced unfair treatment.

Addressing concerns

We encourage low-threshold reporting and handle suspicions according to agreed procedures. When necessary, we cooperate with authorities.

Monitoring and development

We monitor implementation of HRDD work and continuously develop the process based on observations, experiences and stakeholder dialogue.

HRDD as part of Responsible Conduct

HRDD helps us focus sustainability work where impacts affecting people may be most severe. Not all impacts in the value chain can be managed in the same way, which is why we emphasize risk-based prioritization, cooperation and continuous development.
